The research

With the support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), the Research Group for Organisation and Work of the Institute of Sociology has launched a pilot survey study among more than half thousand Hungarian enterprise. The aim of the research was to test questions which are able to describe some characteristics of the organisational innovations. These new organisational values and institutional standards help enterprises to become integrated into the global earning economy in the context of globalised economic competition. One of the most important motives of our research was to identify and present the reasons underlying behind the low innovation activities of the Hungarian enterprises. The field work was carried out in 2006. In 2007 we prepared a synthetic study on the role higher education institutions play in the development of the firms’ knowledge base. We also completed the Final Report in which we indicated the position of the Central European economies and especially the chances of the Hungarian firms to participate in the global value chain of the fast growing knowledge economy. The Community Innovation Survey (CIS), which is coordinated by the Eurostat and carried out in Hungary by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, is the most widely known quantitative survey in the field of innovation. One of the most important outcome of the research is that a part of the questionnaire dealing with the organisational innovations and their motives was accepted and used in the research ‘Innovation activity of the industrial and service sector - 2006’ carried out by Hungarian Central Statistical Office.
